People's Law School: Basics of Wills and Revocable Trusts

The State Library is partnering with the Iowa State Bar Association (ISBA) to bring free high-quality adult programming to public libraries of all sizes across our state. The ISBA People’s Law School provides educational events where members of the public can find answers to life’s legal questions. Speakers present information on a variety of legal topics and answer general questions.

On Tuesday, October 15 the ISBA People’s Law School event focuses on the basics of wills and revocable trusts in Iowa. Topics to be discussed include:

  • Powers and limitations of a last will and testament
  • The basics of probate
  • Information on how court costs are calculated
  • An overview of how trusts work and when it may be helpful to use one

Please note, this session will have limited seating so pre-registration is strongly encouraged.

Session speakers are Matthew Gardner, Gardner Law Firm, P.C. and Hope Wood, Hope Wood JD.

The ISBA People’s Law School events take place on the third Tuesday of the month August 20, 2019 through March 17, 2020 from 5:30-7:30pm. Programming focuses on a variety of issues impacting Iowans including: the basics of wills and revocable trusts; buying and selling a home, mortgages, and foreclosure; establishing guardianships and conservatorships; modifying divorce decrees; and more.

Robey Memorial Library in Waukon is hosting the ISBA People’s Law School series. Future topics in this series are as follows: November 19th—Guardianships and conservatorships. January 14—topic to be determined; February 18th—topic to be determined; March 17th—topic to be determined.
