Search engines are a fine place to start a search of the Internet, but often the results are unsatisfactory. Besides, the Internet isn't the only place to find information. Our library has gathered together some great resources for you to use to find the information you need.

The subject guides give you a great place to find information on travel, sports, consumer goods and more!

  • Use Gale Resources to find magazine, journal, & newspaper articles.
  • Use Iowa Locator or WorldCat to find books, CDs, DVDs and other items in libraries.
  • Use HealthInfoIowa to start your search for health information.
  • Iowa Heritage Project and Iowa Publications Online can help you dig deep into all things Iowa.
  • The Biographical Dictionary of Iowa includes each subject’s name, birth and death dates, place of birth, education, and career and contributions. Many of the names will be instantly recognizable to most Iowans; others are largely forgotten but deserve to be remembered. Beyond the distinctive lives and times captured in the individual biographies, readers of the dictionary will gain an appreciation for how the character of the state has been shaped by the character of the individuals who have inhabited it.
  • LearningExpress Library is an interactive online learning platform featuring over 770 practice tests, tutorials, and eBooks related to job search and workplace skills improvement, career certification and licensing exam preparation, college entrance and graduate school admissions exam preparation, GED exam preparation, and basic skills improvement in reading, writing, and math, for all ages.
