RML’s Reading Colors Your World Summer Reading Program begins Monday, July 5 and runs through Saturday, July 31. Activities include Reading Challenges with prizes for all ages, Kids and Teens Grab and Go Activity Bags, craft events and fine forgiveness.

Kids - Infant – 6th grade (completed):

4-Week Reading Challenge: Register at the front desk, pick up or print from our website a Challenge Card that features reading and activity challenges. Earn prizes and books by completing the tasks assigned to the squares. The more you participate the more prizes you will receive! Participants can display a “Library Champion” sign in their yard. Watch for these as you drive around town.

Grab and Go Activity Bags: Features fun, challenging projects to create at home.

Summer Explorers Series: Summer Explorers continues into July and August on bi-weekly Wednesdays at 10:30-11:30am. Join us for messy fun with the following projects.

  • July 14 – Suncatchers / Make a unique, colorful suncatcher using Sharpies and rubbing alcohol
  • July 28 – Paper Mache Part 1 of 2 / Create a paper mache design of your choice. The piece may be left at the library to dry and complete in part 2 of the program
  • August 11 – Paper Mache Part 2 of 2 / Finish your paper mache creation with paint

Story Walk at the Allamakee County Fair: Wednesday, July 21 – Sunday, July 25: RML will be hosting a Story Walk featuring the children’s book “The Curious Garden” by Peter Brown. Families and children are encouraged to read the book by walking from page to page as they stroll the Fair Grounds. The starting point of the Story Walk is at the Grain Bin Gazebo and end at the Fair Office.

Teens: - 7th – 12th grades (completed)

4-Week Reading Challenge: Register at the front desk, pick up or print from our website a Reading Challenge Brochure. Earn prizes and books by completing reading minutes and literary quests. The more you participate the more prizes you earn!

Teen Book Club: Teen are encouraged to participate in Teen Book club in July and August. Join us for discussion of Marcus Vega doesn’t speak Spanish by Pablo Cartana on July 7th and 21st at 10:30am. August 4th & 18th we will be discussing The inheritance games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes. Snacks provided!

Fine Forgiveness: For those who participate in one of our Reading Programs. Children and Teens who register for the Summer Reading Challenge July 5-31 can have your overdue fines forgiven. Adults who read at least one book for the 2021 Adult Reading Challenge before July 31 can have your overdue fines forgiven. (Be sure to remind the library staff of your participation). Fine Forgiveness does not include lost or damaged items on your library account.
