Holes by Louis Sachar

HolesAdolescent Stanley Yelnats is not lucky. In fact, his whole ancestry is unlucky due to the curse placed upon his "no-good-dirty-rotten-pig-stealing-great-great-grandfather”. Now Stanley is sentenced to serve time at Camp Green Lake detention center for a crime he did not commit. He is forced to pointlessly dig hole after hole after hole in the scorching heat of the ironically-named camp which is located not on a lake, but in the desert. Finally, Stanley makes a desperate attempt to escape. Will his luck change?
