Robey Memorial Library’s “Read Beyond the Beaten Path” Summer Reading Program begins Friday, July 1 and runs through Saturday, July 30. Activities include Reading Challenges with prizes for all ages, Kids and Teens Grab and Go Activity Bags, craft events and fine forgiveness.

Kids - Infant – 6th grade (completed):

Reading Challenge: Register at the front desk, pick up or print from our website a Challenge Card that features reading and activity challenges. Earn prizes and books by completing the tasks assigned to the squares. The more you participate the more prizes you will receive! Participants can display a “Library Champion” sign in their yard. Watch for these as you drive around town.

Passport to Reading: A book club for kids grades 4th through 6th.  Join us as we read through Choose Your Own Adventure series and complete a related activity. Passport to Reading meets from 1-2pm on Mondays, July 11 & 25; and August 8 & 22. Registration is encouraged but not required.

Grab and Go Activity Bags: Features fun, challenging projects to create at home.

Make & Takes for Kids: Drop-in activity sessions on Wednesdays in July. Stop in between 1:30 and 3:30pm on Wednesdays July 6, 13, 20, and 27th to make something to take home!

Summer Explorers Series:

Summer Explorers continues into July and August on bi-weekly Wednesdays at 10:30-11:30am. Join us for messy fun with the following projects.

·      July 13—See the Show, Become the Pro! comedy juggling & variety show presented by Jason Kollum

·      July 27—Paint a Birdhouse

·      August 10—Yarn Owl project

Story Walk at the Allamakee County Fair: Wednesday, July 20 – Sunday, July 24: RML will be hosting a Story Walk featuring the children’s book Parts by Tedd Arnold. Families and children are encouraged to read the book by walking from page to page as they stroll the Fair Grounds.

Teens: - 7th – 12th grades (completed)

Reading Challenge: Register at the front desk, pick up or print from our website a Reading Challenge Brochure. Earn prizes and books by completing reading minutes and literary quests. The more you participate the more prizes you earn!

Teen Book Clubs:

Teen Summer Book Club—July’s book selection is Five total strangers by Natalie D. Richards. Join us Wednesdays, July 6 and July 20 from 10:30-11:30am for snacks and discussion! August’s book club meets on Wednesdays, August 3 and 17 from 10:30-11:30am for snacks and discussion of Punching the air by Ibi Zoboi and Yuseff Salaam. Register for August book club by July 16 to receive a free copy of the book to keep—donated by the RML Foundation.

Classic Book Club for Teens—This club is reading and discussing two classic titles: Animal farm by George Orwell and Study in scarlet by Arthur Conan Doyle. Classic Book Club meets at 5pm on Mondays, July 18; and August 22. Don’t own a copy of the book? Check out the library’s copy or use your own!

Fine Forgiveness

For those who participate in one of our Reading Challenges. Children and Teens who register for the Summer Reading Challenge in July can have overdue fines forgiven. Adults who read at least one book for the 2022 Adult Reading Challenge before July 30th can have overdue fines forgiven. (Be sure to remind the library staff of your participation). Fine Forgiveness does not include lost or damaged items on your library account.
