As part of the longest-running national celebration of books for young people and the joy of reading, over 1,300 schools, libraries, and bookstores will celebrate Children’s Book Week from May 2 to 8 from coast to coast in all 50 states.

The theme for this year’s celebration is How Do You Book?

We are proud to be hosting the following events in celebration of Children’s Book Week:

One Week, One Book reading challenge

  • Monday, May 2 through Saturday, May 7
  • Read any one book during this week and stop in for a prize—all ages are welcome to participate!

Pajama Party

  • Monday, May 2 from 5:30-6:15pm
  • Join us for a special story time—remember to wear your pajamas!

Ice Cream with a Dairy Princess

  • Friday, May 6 from 4-5:30pm
  • All ages are welcome to stop in for an ice cream treat with an Allamakee County Dairy Princess.
  • This program is sponsored in part by the Allamakee County Dairy Board.

Rock Painting

  • Friday, May 6 from 4-5:30pm
  • Drop-in for a rock painting activity!

 

Children’s Book Week is a cornerstone program of Every Child a Reader, a 501(c)(3) literacy charity dedicated to inspiring a lifelong love of reading in children and teens across America. Other national programs include the Children’s and Teen Choice Book Awards, the National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature, in partnership with the Library of Congress, and Get Caught Reading.
