As part of Live & Learn: enriching lives through monthly learning series, Robey Memorial Library (RML) is offering Beyond the Beaten Path: One War, Four Iowans, and Their Journey to Home and Love on Thursday, July 30 at 5:30 pm in the lower level Community Room.
RML invites community members to a special presentation by storyteller Darrin Crow, who will share Beyond the Beaten Path: One War, Four Iowans, and Their Journey to Home and Love.
Since its premiere, this compelling program has captivated audiences across Iowa. Created and presented by Darrin and Robin Crow, the story follows the lives, struggles, and hopes of four Iowans during the Vietnam War. Audiences will journey alongside an Army radio man, a Navy sailor, and their wives as they navigate the rivers and jungles of Vietnam while also finding their way through the challenges and joys of young love.
Blending history with personal storytelling, Beyond the Beaten Path offers a unique perspective on a pivotal era in American history. The program not only explores the experiences of those who served but also highlights the sacrifices and resilience of the families waiting for them at home.
“One of the best parts of sharing this story is hearing others tell their stories of this tumultuous era,” said Crow. “It creates opportunities for conversation, reflection, and preserving local history.”
Crow is known for his powerful, imaginative, and engaging storytelling style. Whether performing in classrooms, museums, festivals, art fairs, libraries, or even ancient Greek amphitheaters, he crafts stories that keep audiences on the edge of their seats and remain with them long after the tale ends.
This program provides a meaningful opportunity for veterans, family members, history enthusiasts, and community members of all ages to connect with Iowa’s past through the art of storytelling.
The program is free and open to the public.
