Robey Memorial Library invites young readers to embark on an exciting literary adventure with "Reading Dragons and Friends" this summer. This innovative program, designed to foster a love for reading while leveling up skills, offers participants the chance to collect and play with dragon-themed cards.
Starting in June through August, children can pick up a reading log from the library or print one from our website to begin their journey. Each participant will earn collectible dragon cards by logging their reading time in 30-minute increments. The cards feature eight majestic dragon families, including eggs, babies, teens, and adults, created by Carey Pietsch for the 2025 iREAD Summer Reading Edition.
"We're thrilled to introduce Reading Dragons and Friends to our community," said Ellie Krousie, Children's Librarian at Robey Memorial Library. "This program is not only about encouraging reading but also making it enjoyable and inclusive for children of all reading abilities. Whether they're seasoned bookworms or just starting their reading adventure, every participant earns rewards that celebrate their progress."
In addition to collecting dragon cards, participants can earn bonus prizes by joining the Summer Reading Challenge in July. This program aims to motivate children to read regularly and develop positive reading habits in a fun and supportive environment.
Reading Dragons and Friends was developed by librarians Liz Strauss and Mallory Thompson at Dover Public Library, and has captivated young readers nationwide by blending the excitement of mythical creatures with the joy of reading.
